Additional information will soon appear through this web site regarding SUMMER 2003 FESTIVAL EVENTS in the Creggs area of East Galway, Republic of Ireland.
This year's events include a Clan Gathering of the O'Finnerty's on June 26th 2003 at their nearby ancestral home on the grounds of DONAMON CASTLE.
Donamon - or Dun Iomain in the Irish language (meaning The Fortress of Iomain) - is understood to be the oldest inhabited site in Ireland.
The above mentioned O'Finnerty event is part of a much wider set of celebrations connected with the 400th aniversary of the most famous forced-march in known Irish history: that of Donal Cam O'Sullivan Beara in 1603 (from the shores of Bantry Bay in the south, all the way up to County Leitrim in the north).
Further information regarding this epic journey of some 250 miles, which took place in the depths of Winter, and which many did not survive, can be found by going to the new Kilbegnet & Ballinakill Historical Society web site address provided at the end of this page.
There is also information on the Kilbegnet & Ballinakill Historical Society web site regarding an O'Finnerty Seminar which will be held on June 24th 2003. This seminar will be conducted by Lt. Col. Richard Finnerty [USAF ret.] of Honolulu, Hawaii.
In addition, there are facilities for finding MAPS OF THE LOCAL AREA at the Kilbegnet Internet address below, as well as some help for people requiring LOCAL ACCOMMODATION.
Thank you for visiting our web site.
